Ugh - I know the feeling! Don’t panic, though, because Gogo and I have compiled a master list of our current favorite places to shop (and how to shop them).
Starting with digging through the classics, what you search is integral to finding the perfect pieces. Fashion research is something to be mastered! On Depop or Vestiaire, I like to try and find peoples’ accounts whose style I admire. Look through who they follow, what they are liking, and then scroll down to the “you might also like” section of the app to find similar styles. I urge you to go down that rabbit hole. On the RealReal, do some research on niche, high-end brands that are outside of the mainstream world to get your search engine into more unique spaces. While I’m gatekeeping mine (sorry!!), there are hundreds to explore, like Moschino jeans, Betsey Johnson, Ganni, etc. Use similar tactics of looking at the suggested pieces at the bottom of the page to find even more brands to explore. I also like going to a category of women’s clothing, putting in a price range I am comfortable with, and then clicking “editor’s picks” to find the up-and-coming pieces that the website gods deem trendy for the season.
Ebay is the hidden gem of this century in terms of finding unique vintage pieces. Primarily, I start on Pinterest and find vintage clothes that I like the look of. I then see the descriptions of the clothing the post used and type them into Ebay’s search engine. Once you get the hang of it, you’ll start to find your sweet spot for searching. Some key words to try are Yohji Yamamoto, Issey Miyake, vintage army, engineered Levis, etc…
